I went for a walk in the Numadaru temple walk in Chuo-ku, Niigata City. The Numadaru area, with its several historical shrines and temples, is within walking distance of Niigata Station, making it a great place for a walk!
First, visit the Kambara Shrine, which is well-known for the Kambara Festival. The huge torii gate standing along the road is a sight to behold.
そして、国道(栗の木バイパス)を挟んで真向かいにある白山神社へ。
The shrine is also rich in nature and it is refreshing just to walk around. Otoko Shrine was also located just behind Hakusan Shrine.
白山神社や乙子神社の近くには、新潟駅から一番近い酒造『今代司酒造』もあります。街の中心地にありながらも、まるで昔の日本にタイムスリップしたかのような情緒豊かな佇まいがお見事です。
I was so excited that I didn't know Niigata had such a spot!" I walked towards the sea for a while and found a new spot with a number of temples. The first temple I found was called Shinzenji.
It is still going on. Next to it is the 'Siddiqiin'!
It was a spectacular sight to see such a magnificent row of temples. And next to Sichikichiin was a gate that also had a magnificent appearance.
This was a temple named 'Hokoin'. Four temples of such a magnificent scale in a row... Numadari, you must be amazed.
I heard that there are many more temples, but I gave up on this temple walk at this point. I thought it would be fun to come here again, not alone, but with a group of friends who like temples.
Directly across the road from Shinzenji to Hokoin was a rather quaint row of buildings.
If you look closely at these, each one is a restaurant. The sign also has a firm warning 'No one under 20 years of age'. This is deep! Perhaps there is a different atmosphere at night in Numadori than in the daytime. Let's definitely come back again.
I am from Niigata City's Nishi Ward, but I had no idea that such a spot existed in Niigata, and I went home without letting my excitement fade. There are still many interesting spots in Niigata that I didn't know existed...
By visiting places you wouldn't normally go, you may have the opportunity to discover a new face of Niigata that you didn't know before. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, please take a walk around the Numadari area.
