Tsunan Town, Niigata Prefecture, is said to have the world's largest snowfall in an inhabited area. This is a record of my daily life in such a town.
Tsunan town has been getting noticeably colder.
Today I went to my favourite 'moricafe' for coffee to reset my busy schedule.
moricafe and moricraft are a café and workshop together.
This place was handmade by the owner, Mr Yamada. (Amazing!)
The appearance and atmosphere are excellent.
The owner, Mr Yamada, is a carpenter and artist. (He has also worked on famous temples).
I am the organiser of the Echigo-Tsumari Craft Fair, which is held every year in Tsunan Town. (I have also been photographing and designing for them for the last few years.)
The shop is filled with original pieces made from wood.
I always only meet Yamada-san in person for work, so today I decided to enjoy this space and had a quick coffee before meeting him.
With crackers. Best for.
I cannot describe the taste of the coffee well, but it is not harshly acidic or bitter and has a somewhat soothing taste that I would like to drink every day.
After coffee, the usual small talk.
I enjoy casual conversation.
It was getting colder and they turned on the wood stove.
In the workshop at the back, which you enter for the first time without thinking about it, there are spoons in the process of being made that will be brought to life.
Yamada-san's tools.
You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their tools.
For the next hour, we had a very pleasant time, and then we were on our way home.
For the first time in a long time, I was able to enjoy a relaxing holiday and reset.
Incidentally, the café closes for the winter.
The fun will have to wait until spring again.
We will visit you for a good cup of coffee when the grass and trees are budding.
