Yamakoshi, Nagaoka City, is famous for its world-class terraced rice fields & terraced ponds! It is famous for its magnificent scenery that stretches all around, but there are also restaurants that serve very tasty food. This time we visited one of these restaurants, Restaurant Tanada!

Tanada Restaurant was created by a group of local mothers who volunteered to set up the restaurant after the Chuetsu Earthquake. The restaurant is so popular for its homemade food using plenty of local ingredients that customers come from outside the prefecture.

This time, I ordered the tempura set meal. This is the best of the best!

According to what we have heard, they carefully select and serve seasonal vegetables and mushrooms according to the season. Especially during the wild vegetable season, the mothers go into the mountains themselves and pick delicious wild vegetables.

Why do locally grown seasonal vegetables taste so good? The aroma and richness are completely different. I was very satisfied with the flavourful and colourful tempura set meal.

When we spoke to a staff member, she told us, "Everyone does it because it's fun, whether it's picking wild vegetables or harvesting vegetables." They tell us that they do it because it's fun. Even though it is an extension of their daily lives, we felt the hospitality and great love of the mothers towards the guests who came to Yamakoshi.

Another thing I ordered was butterbur ice cream. I was nervous and excited to order this as it was my first time trying it.

This is also delicious! After just the right amount of sweetness, the aroma of the butterbur sprouts quickly passes through your nose. It is like a soft spring breeze after the snow melts. I felt that this taste was born from the heavy snowfall in Yamakoshi.

Now, Tanada Restaurant, which offers such delicious food, is currently selling lunchboxes at Aole Nagaoka every Wednesday.
