We recently introduced Poppo's Bread, which opened a shop in Niigata City's Nishi Ward, and there are other bakeries on Sado Island that make natural yeast bread.
Marcus' bakery (T&M Bread Delivery Sado Island) is also popular for its grain natural yeast bread. Many people may know it as it has been introduced in magazines and on TV. Marcus and his wife Tomoko, who are from the USA, sell bread baked in the rich natural environment of Sado Island.
We have a shop in Hamo and also actively participate in events in Sado Island, as well as deliveries.
Last Sunday (14 December), I went to the 'Hamo Grand Market' because Marcus' bakery was also going to have a stall there.
Hamo is a central town in southern Sado, famous for its 'okesa persimmons' and the traditional performing art of 'tsuburo-sashi', but it is also famous on Sado for this 'Hamo Grand Market', held every year at the start of the New Year. It attracts many people from all over Sado Island. During the week, the southern part of the island also experienced unusually heavy snowfall due to the cold wave.
Seven gods of good fortune also make an appearance! Hamo Daiichi (Great Hamo Market)
We arrived at Hamo at around 10.30am, and although the festival starts at 8am, as expected, it is still sparsely populated. It seems to gradually get busier and busier towards lunchtime.
Marcus's Bakery.
Marcus' Bakery is found in the shopping street! This red jeep is the landmark of 'Marcus's Bakery'. However, it will not be selling here today.
Sold at the main venue of the big market!
Marcus' Bakery was selling just a short walk from the shop, near the Hamo Chamber of Commerce and Industry building. Near the main venue of the big market. The bread made from natural yeast grains was sold one after another.
After all, Marcus, you speak to us in a cheerful Sado dialect.
A long, long loaf of bread has been served.
Eventually, some kind of savoury and large loaf of bread emerged. It is more than 50 cm long. It is freshly baked.
Danish from Le L'Ecce.
This is the Le Leche Danish. It was cut into chunks and sold on the spot. Le Leche is grown extensively on Sado Island, and of course this was also made from Le Leche from Sado Island. It was crispy, sweet and very tasty!
I also bought a loaf of zesty bread.
I was interested in the 'Zakkoku Pan' on the right of the photo. This bread looks like it could be from a foreign comic book or something. I was told that this bread lasts for quite a long time, so I bought it as a souvenir.
