Coffee Suzukura is located in Chuo Ward, Niigata City, on Magusakawagishidori Street. This Japanese-style café is housed in a renovated warehouse that has existed since the Meiji era. I heard from a friend that it was a very nice place, and he took me there.
Location.
The location is a little difficult to find. The map shows ↓.
This way. However, there is a great danger of passing through in a car, so a street view is included.
The building in the middle is Ryozo. A signboard is posted, so follow the directions to a side street.
The entrance is here. There is a car park at the back of the building, where three cars can be parked. However! Space is limited and requires a certain driving skill. Walking is a sure way to get there.
This is the entrance. Oh... this looks very sturdy. A veritable storehouse.
Now, go inside the shop. The first thing you see is the unique wall pattern. The restaurant has a total of 12 table and counter seats. It was just lunchtime when we entered the restaurant, but it was almost full.
Inside the shop there are Japanese dolls, hanging scrolls and other items, which make me feel very relaxed. You get a nostalgic feeling as if you have been to your grandmother's house. Well, it looks like a seat is available, so we sit down.
When you look at the table, you see a Japanese-style pattern. According to an acquaintance who accompanied me, it is called 'Genji-ko'. The aristocracy used to have a game called "Kumiko", which was used for this purpose. I looked it up while waiting.
Kumiko is a way of enjoying fragrances according to certain rules. It is a game of guessing the difference between different scents according to rules covering a wide variety of fields, from literary elements to general knowledge, and is highly game-like. However, the essence of the game is to listen to the fragrance and enjoy the taste in silence, outside the hustle and bustle of daily life, and not to compete over the success or failure of the answer or whether it is superior or inferior. (Wikipedia: Kumiko )
What an elegant game! I had no idea.

I ordered the grilled curry!
Now, here's what I ordered. It's the Yaki Curry. Ho-ho-ho! Looks delicious!
Savoury smells from curry and cheese.
The curry is also very thick. It has a very rich taste. When you eat it with grilled cheese, you get an exquisite chemical reaction of curry & cheese. It is well-cooked, mellow and delicious.
Other dishes included lasagne, omelette and spaghetti. It was like a Western-style restaurant menu. There is also a set menu with coffee. The gap between the restaurant's Japanese style and the menu is very Western. Yes, I'm in a very Japanese-style space right now. It's a bit strange (laughs).
The upstairs is very nice and relaxing.
Thanks for the food.
Now, as well as the delicious food, there is yet another place to look out for in this restaurant. That is the second floor. A wonderful space has spread out.
Super/steep stairs.
It is quite steep, so please be careful if you are with children. Now, look up the stairs and you'll see...
The first thing that catches the eye is a beautiful folding screen! Furthermore...
The restaurant was entered in March. The china dolls are on display. They are also very beautiful. It matches the folding screens.
Japanese doll. The bookshelf next to it is full of books on Japanese art. There were many other Japanese & retro items.
An old clock, like Grandpa's clock. It has a certain taste.
Lovely crockery by the window.
It is also available for purchase. Come and join us in our new life!
If the restaurant is full, they can wait here. It's really relaxing. The waiting time is no longer a bother (maybe). Well, I'm satisfied.
summary
We enjoyed our meal while feeling the atmosphere of the "warehouse" throughout the restaurant, and on the second floor we found a space that was nostalgic and relaxing. It's a little hard to tell from the photos, but the light is just right and it's just too cosy. I kind of... want to live here (laughs).
(Extra.)
There are also dolls in front of the cash register. From the moment you enter the shop to the very end, you can enjoy the Japanese atmosphere.
