We took a walk around the many temples that continue to stand in the area around Teramachi Tamari Station in Niigata Prefecture's Shinobata City. I used as a reference the 'Shibatera Walking Map' published by the 'Shibatera Walking Town Development Promotion Council', which was available at the Teramachi Tamari Station! It is very easy to read and extremely helpful!

With the help of these guides, which are placed all over the city, we actually walked through the temple town of Shimbata. In a radius of 100 m, there are as many as nine splendid temples in a row.

First up! Fukusho-ji Temple!

And the Souenji temple next to it!

Furthermore, the Komyoji Temple is located next to it!

This is a series of magnificent temples of such a large scale. The main attraction is the exquisitely different roofs of each temple, which, although traditional in construction, are designed in a variety of ways that show the spirit of the stylish Japanese.

And on and on it went, the Sanko-ji Temple was next!

Then walk for a while to Hogo-ji Temple!

Zuiyunji Temple across the road!

Shinmyoji Temple is located next to it!

Further next door is the Renjoji Temple!

And last but not least, Hokkeji Temple! Doh!

So many magnificent temples are so condensed and strung together. Amazing, Shinbada... so many temples in a row... sometimes it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and take a leisurely stroll through the temple town!

At the Teramachi Tamari Station, a facility located a 7-minute walk from Shimbata Station, free walking tours are offered by volunteers. If you would like to visit, please call in advance to inquire. Wear a hat in hot weather! And don't forget to drink water!
